LIVING IN THE JOY OF THE LORD

John 16:20-33

Truth: God transforms sorrow into joy. Praying to the Father in faith brings joy. Our position in Christ gives us overcoming joy. Are you living in the joy of the Lord?

I. GOD TRANSFORMS SORROW INTO JOY

1. Tribulations and sorrow are apart of life. John 16:20. Job 14:1-2
2. We cannot substitute worldly things and have lasting joy. Matt 6:24
3. God transforms difficulties into joy. John 16:21-22. Gen 50:20

II. PRAYING TO THE FATHER IN FAITH BRINGS JOY

1. There is in joy knowing God will meet all our needs. John 16:23. Phil 4:19; Psa 23:1
2. There is joy in knowing God’s revealed truth. John 16:24-28. 1 Cor 2:6-10
3. There is joy in knowing Jesus is our intercessor and our advocate in heaven. Rom 8:34; 1 John 2:1

III. OUR POSITION IN CHRIST GIVES US OVERCOMING JOY

1. Living in and of this world will bring tribulations. John 16:29-32; 2 Tim 3:12; Psa 34:19
2. Living in and for Christ will bring joy because He overcame this world. John 16:33. Rom 5:1; Rom 8:37; 1 Cor 15:57; 1 John 5:4
