REMEMBERING OUR LORD’S DEATH

1 Corinthians 11:23-34

Truth: Remember the reason for our Lord’s death. We are to Remember He will return for us. Remember to examine ourselves. Let us remember and be thankful for our Lord’s death.

I. REMEMBER THE REASON FOR OUR LORD’S DEATH

  1. The bread represents his body broken for us. 1 Cor 11:23-24, Isa 53:4-5
  2. The cup represents His blood shed for our sins. 1 Cor 11:25, Heb 9:12, 22, Eph 1:7, Col 1:14
  3. The Bread and the cup take us back to the cross. 1 Cor 11:26. Isa 53:6, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Tim 1:15

II. REMEMBER HE WILL RETURN FOR US

  1. Jesus told His disciples he would return to carry them home with Him. 1 Cor 11:26, Acts1:11, John 14:1-3
  2. He will bring His heavenly saints with Him. 1 Thess. 4:16-18

III. REMEMBER TO EXAMINE OURSELVES

  1. Come to the supper Saved and a member of the Lord’s church. 1 Cor 11:28, 1 Peter 3:15, Acts 2:41
  2. Come to the supper unworthy but forgiven. 1 Cor 11:29-32, 1 John 1:9, Psa 32:5
  3. Come to the supper in unity. 1 Cor 11:33-34, Eph 4:1-3

JESUS CAME INTO THE WORLD TO SAVE US

1 Timothy 1:15

Truth: Jesus came as the Godman. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. Jesus came to die for our sins. Have you trusted Christ as your Saviour?

I. JESUS CAME AS THE GODMAN

  1. Jesus was born of a virgin. Matt 1:23; Luke 1:35
  2. Jesus was man and God. Matt. 1:23
  3. Jesus came to save His people. Matt 1:21

II. JESUS CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW Matt 5:17-18; Rom 10:4

  1. Jesus always honored God the Father. John 6:38; Matt 26:39; John 4:23
  2. Jesus honored His mother and earthly father. Luke 2:51
  3. Jesus never killed or thought wrongly about any women, or stole, or lied. Heb 4:15; 2 Cor 5:21
  4. Jesus never coveted another man’s things. Matt 8:20

III. JESUS CAME TO DIED FOR OUR SINS

  1. Jesus died the cruel death of the cross for us. Isa 53:5
  2. Jesus died for our sins. 1 Cor 15:3; 1 John 3:4-5
  3. Jesus died and rose again to bring salvation to us. John 14:6; Act 4:12; 2 Cor 5:18
  4. Jesus died to save all who believe in Him. 1 Tim 1:15; John 3:16-18

THE GRACE OF GOD HAS APPEARED TO ALL MEN

Truth: The grace of God redeems. The grace of God transforms us. The grace of God rewards us. Are you living in the grace of God?

I. THE GRACE OF GOD REDEEMS US

  1. Grace came by Jesus Christ and brought salvation to all men. Titus 2:10-11; Rom 5:15
  2. Christ gave Himself to redeem us from all iniquity. Titus 2:14; Titus 3:3-7

II. THE GRACE OF GOD TRANSFORMS US

  1. God’s grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lust, to live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. Titus 2:12; 1 John 5:15-17; Rom 12:1-2
  2. Grace reforms us because God purifies (sanctifies) us and makes us His own special possession. Titus 2:14; Rom 8:29; 1
    Peter 2:9
  3. Sanctification is not only separation from sin, but it is also devotion to God. 2 Cor 6: 14-7:1

III. THE GRACE OF GOD REWARDS US

  1. Grace empowers us to look to our blessed hope. Titus 2:13; 1 Cor 1:7; 2 Cor 5:8-10
  2. Grace enables us to look for the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Titus 2:13; 1 Thess 4:13-18

Truth: A life without the Spirit of God. A life that has the Spirit of God. A life in which the Spirit has you. Are you living in the Spirit?

I. A LIFE WITHOUT THE SPIRIT OF GOD

  1. You are condemned by the Law to sin and death. Rom 8:1-2; Rom 3:20; Gal 3:22;24
  2. You have rejected the atonement of Christ. Rom 8:3-4; John 3:18
  3. You cannot please God without the Spirit. Rom 8:5-8; Rom 3:23

II. A LIFE THAT HAS THE SPIRIT OF GOD

  1. You are in Christ because the Spirit dwells in you. Rom 8:9; 2 Cor 5:17
  2. The evidence of conversion is the presence of the Holy Spirit within, witnessing that you are a child of God. Rom. 8:16
  3. Your body becomes the very temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor 6:19-20

III. A LIFE IN WHICH THE SPIRIT HAS YOU

  1. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Life. Rom 8:1-4; Rom 8:16; John 16:13-15
  2. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Death. Rom 8:13; Gal. 2:20; Rom 6:12-17
  3. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Adoption. Rom 8:15-17; 1 Cor 2:12

I. HEARING GOD’S WORD BRINGS SALVATION

II. STUDYING GOD’S WORD BRINGS TRANSFORMATION

  2. God’s Word teaches reproof. (What is not right.) Psa 119:11
  3. God’s Word teaches correction. (How to get right.) 1 John 1:8-9
  4. God’s Word teaches instruction in righteousness. (How to stay right.) Psa 119:105

III. LIVING GOD’S WORD BRINGS SANCTIFICATION

  1. Commitment to the Word of God will empower you. John 17:17-19; 16:13-15
  2. Commitment to Christ through action brings Holy Spirit power to our lives. John 14:21-23,26

HOW TO BE CHOSEN BY GOD

Matthew 22:1-14

Truth: Jesus invites all to be His chosen. Jesus invites all, but not all are chosen. Jesus invites all to be chosen, but you must choose Him. Have you been chosen by Jesus?

I. JESUS INVITES ALL TO BE HIS CHOSEN

  1. The nation of Israel where God’s chosen. Matt 22:1-3. Deut 14:2; John 1:11-13
  2. The invitation to be one of God’s chosen is given to all. Matt 22:4,9, Rom 10:13; John 3:16; Matt 11:28
  3. The Gospel message is to the world! Matt 28:19

II. NOT ALL ARE CHOSEN

  1. The nation of Israel rejected Christ. Matt 22:3,4-8. Matt 23:37-39
  2. All who reject Christ will not be chosen. Matt 22:11, 14; Acts 4:12; Matt 7:21-23

III. TO BE CHOSEN, YOU MUST CHOOSE HIM

  1. The Lord chooses from the bad and the good. Matt 22:10; Acts 10:34. Rom 2:11
  2. You choose Christ by seeking forgiveness of your sins. Acts 16:30; Acts 2:37
  3. You choose Christ by faith through His grace. Rom 4:16; Gal 3:22
  4. When you surrender to Him, Christ gives you Salvation and you become one of His chosen. 2 Thess 2:13; James 2:5; 1 Peter 2:9; Rev 17:14

Our Great Salvation

OUR GREAT SALVATION

Hebrews 2:1-4

Truth: We have been saved from condemnation as sinners and granted salvation as the children of God. We are being saved through the process of daily sanctification. We will be saved from physical death to eternal life in heaven. Are you neglecting your salvation?

I. WE ARE SAVED FROM CONDEMNATION AS SINNERS AND GRANTED SALVATION AS CHILDREN OF GOD

  1. The saved are no longer condemned. John 3:16-18; Rom 8:1
  2. Salvation is received the moment you repent of your sins and trust in the Lord Jesus. Rom 8:16, Eph 1:13-14
  3. Our great salvation is kept by God’s power. 1 Peter 1:5; Eph 4:30

II. WE ARE BEING SAVED THROUGH THE PROCESS OF DAILY SANCTIFICATION

  1. There is a continual process of living a holy life for Christ. Eph 4:22-24; Rom 6:4
  2. Believers are to live as the holy person they are. 2 Cor 5:17-18; Rom 12:2

III. WE WILL BE SAVED FROM PHYSICAL DEATH TO ETERNAL LIFE

  1. The Saint goes to be with the Lord at physical death. 2 Cor 5:8
  2. The Saint will have a glorified body like Christ one day. 1 John 3:2; 1 Cor 15:51-58

III. JESUS THE RISEN LORD BROUGHT SALVATION

  1. The resurrection of Christ affirms who He is. Rom 1:4
  2. The resurrection of Christ proves that His sacrifice for sin has been accepted and that the work of salvation is completed. Rom 4:24-25
  3. The resurrection of Christ assures us that we will be raised from the dead when Christ returns for all believers. Rom 8:11. 1 Thess 4:13-18
